Indigo snake1/10/2023 The hatchling was clearly smaller than those released from captivity, which were usually at least two feet long the snakes can grow up to eight feet long in adulthood. The snake discovered was clearly wild-born due to two factors, according to Godwin: its small size and its lack of a PIT (or passive integrated transponder) tag. “It is an excellent indicator that the snakes that we have released, which were born into captivity, have been able to adapt to the wild, are functioning as wild snakes, and are reproducing,” said Godwin. The discovery of wild-born Eastern indigo snakes means the released snakes survived and had offspring, providing a glimpse of hope for the species’ success in Alabama. ![]() The goal is to eventually introduce a total of 300 snakes to create a healthy and viable population in Alabama. In 2010, the first snakes from the captive population were released into Conecuh National Forest. Starting with wild-captured individuals from Georgia, where the snakes are also found, they began to breed a captive population. So in 2006, a team of Alabama conservationists launched a project to reintroduce the Eastern indigo snake to the state. A decline in the snake’s population, therefore, has a “domino effect” on other species in the ecosystem. Jim Godwin, an animal biologist with the Alabama Natural Heritage Program administered by the Auburn University Museum of Natural History, told CNN that Eastern indigo snakes were historically the “apex predator” in the longleaf pine forests where they live. The snakes, however, are a crucial element of the ecosystem. But they went extinct in the state in the 1950s, largely due to habitat loss, according to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The reptile, which is the largest snake native to the US, used to be found throughout Alabama. “Reintroducing a species to its native range is a daunting task, and we celebrate each step of its success!” “The snake found yesterday indicates the project is resulting in some thriving and reproducing indigos, just what we wanted!” the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division said Thursday on Facebook. ![]() The discovery of a wild-born Eastern indigo snake marks the success of an intensive program to reintroduce the reptiles to the state. For only the second time in more than 60 years, the elusive Eastern indigo snake has slithered into Alabama.

Geo duck skeletal1/10/2023 ![]() 3 Depending on species, adult shell diameter is between 4 and 10 inches. All are protected under CITES Appendix II. Though it more specifically refers to species Nautilus pompilius, the name chambered nautilus is also used for any of the Nautilidae. Because it was easy to break, Daddy put it in a plastic case, which was sort of a good idea but now it is difficult to look at or measure, so I'm glad I've got another. It comprises six living species in two genera, the type of which is the genus Nautilus. I found the duck bones besides a lake in the Pheasant Woods which we now call Duck Skull Lake. One of the first skulls I found was a mallard duck skull. It was difficult to get because all the floorboards were broken so I had to step carefully to get it. I found it in a broken shed near a loch where geese come over the winter. The bottom skull is a type of goose, I think a pink-footed goose ( see why here). It's the biggest type of bird skull like this with this type of beak, but even this one isn't fully grown. The top skull is from a mute swan, and I found it in the Secret Vault. Here is the skull next to some other similar skulls that I have: Because of the colour of the feathers, I knew it was a girl mallard. The Surprisingly Complex Science of Bird Longevity. Then I looked at this website and it said it was a mallard. Birds are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates constituting the class Aves, characterised by feathers, toothless beaked jaws, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, a high metabolic rate, a four-chambered heart, and a strong yet lightweight skeleton. To make sure what it was, I measured the skull, and it was 110mm long. Ducks and geese have a flat beak that isn't sharp at the end. Here's what it looked like when we found it:īecause we'd seen its body, we knew what type of bird it was. Normally when we find bones all the flesh has already gone, but this one we put in some water and just left it there for about two weeks, then daddy sprayed it with the hose and then it was just the bone. When we found it it was still rotting away. ![]() This is the mallard duck skull that I found back on a walk here. The crew then made camp on the reef until they were rescued. ![]() She barely made it to Roncador Reef before she grounded. ![]() The vessel was chased, then sank into the water before surfacing again and ramming the Kearsarge, putting a large hole in her hull. Yes, according to her commander, Captain Leigh Hunt, he was attacked by a man-made underwater vessel that resembled a whale. The whaling ship Essex, out of Nantucket, was rammed and sunk by a whale, offered Pitt. It seems a stretch to think that the mysterious monster wasn't designed and constructed by an industrial nation, said Pitt, still skeptical. And if it sailed around ramming and sinking ships, how come there were not more survivors to report the incidents? Those early efforts would have looked crude beside Captain Nemo's Nautilus. After that, submarine science lagged until John Holland and Simon Lake began experimenting with and building submarines that were accepted by several countries, including us and the Germans. The Hunley even experimented with electromagnetic engines, but that technology was not ready, so eight men sat inside the submarine and turned a crank that spun the propeller for propulsion. That last thing, by the way, was a concept that nobody thought had been used before Howard Hughes flushed the rivets on an aircraft he designed in the mid-nineteen-thirties. She was quite streamlined, and she had a rudimentary snorkel system with bellows to pump air, ballast tanks with pumps, diving planes and flush rivets to reduce water drag. When she was inspected at first hand and the silt and remains of her crew removed from inside, she was found to be far more modern in concept than was supposed. The Hunley sat on the bottom buried in silt for a hundred and thirty-six years before she was discovered, raised and placed in a conservation laboratory tank to preserve her for public display. Perlmutter nodded.Yes, the feat didn't happen again until fifty years later, in August of 1914, when the U-21 sank the HMS Pathfinder in the North Sea. What about Verne? Pitt inquired. There must be a museum, a home or relatives that collected all his papers, research records and letters. Sounds like the good captain was heavily into the rum locker, Pitt said, jokingly. Not exactly an underwater craft to be taken lightly in 1894. Probably somewhere in between, Pitt said thoughtfully.Somewhere slightly more than two hundred feet in length with a twenty-five-foot beam. The Hunley was built by private individuals who funded the project, lectured Perlmutter.Actually, she was the third boat built by Horace Hunley and his engineers. He disappeared down the hall for several minutes before reappearing with a book in one hand.A copy of the board of inquiry minutes concerning the sinking of the U.S. Perlmutter ran out of steam and was about to reach for the port bottle again when a look of revelation swept over his face.I just thought of something, he said, raising his great bulk out of his chair with ease. ![]() Navy ship, the Abraham Lincoln, which reported an encounter with an undersea craft that rammed and shattered her rudder. That, said Perlmutter sternly, was a real whale. Perlmutter contemplated his bottle of port, which was now two-thirds empty.Over that time, many ships disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Pitt set his glass on the table but refused another when offered.I can't believe a supernatural vessel decades ahead of its time 'was built by private individuals. The ship that sank the famous Confederate raider Alabama? Which isn't to say there are not more reports, untapped by researchers, in archives scattered around the world. I can't say, said Perlmutter slowly.I only know what I find in recorded sea history. Dong copter1/9/2023 ![]() In coverage by the Associated Press (itself run by the Washington Post ), as well as Vice and the Albuquerque Journal, we get quotes from Gonzalez, who attempted to pin the whole incident on the campaign of sitting mayor Tim Keller, but very little from the people behind the drone itself. The gimmick worked! Well, the half-cocked gimmick did half of what it needed to do. ![]() The GoFundMe set for Dryer’s legal defense notes that the device is an “expensive drone with a rainbow colored, paper-stuffed, sock with googly eyes attached to it.” Dryer called Gonzalez a “tyrant” in the action. Kaelen Dryer, who can be seen in the video attempting to retrieve the drone and swinging his arms, has been charged with petty misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor resisting, evading or obstructing an office, according to the Albuquerque Journal. The rainbow-colored pantyhose, with googly eyes on the tip, was stuffed with paper. While there are some drones that can carry a couple pounds easily, the 10-ounce drone used here is smaller than all that, and besides, on close look it’s clearly only an imitation of a dildo. What makes a gimmick drone is that it’s not particularly good at the task. The drone and accompanying protuberance made national news. The copter, a toy model I couldn’t make out in the video, buzzed into action in the middle of a speech by Manuel Gonzales III, a conservative Democrat running in the city’s fall election. Seirei class shaman king1/9/2023 Kami-class ( God class) is the classification of the most powerful ghosts in Shaman King. Only the shaman has to train and grow stronger. After this "ascending", the spirit does not have to become stronger since this is the highest form of power. Sacred-or 'higher'-spirits are more appropriately ghosts who have ascended beyond their ego, enabling them to assume any form or shape freely. ' Seirei-class ( Sacred Souls in the English version of Anime series, or 'Nature Spirits') is the classification for spirits who have existed for 500 years or more and whose souls have shed their physical attachment to achieve their purest form. For example, one of the coolest tools I’ve seen in quite some time is the mirror shard you collect during the first patient tape. Each new world offers a new tool needed to push on. Each space traveled provides more insight into the happenings of Milton Haven. When we meet Desmond he wakes up extremely confused in the basement of the building. His psychiatric practice is set up in the same apartment complex as the one he lives in, making for a very short commute. So let’s see if it lived up to my expectations. On paper, In Sound Mind promised everything I look for in a horror game: puzzle solving, limited resources, terrifying things that want to scare you to death.
